The central idea

Choose the partner whose engagement model fits your business problem and whose recommendations can be tested.

Define the service you actually need

AI consulting in Utah includes different kinds of work: executive guidance, opportunity assessment, workforce training, engineering, and integration. A firm may cover several of these, but your first need should guide the conversation. Describe whether the constraint is uncertainty, capability, delivery capacity, or a specific system problem.

Bring a workflow and a desired outcome rather than a request to implement AI everywhere. That lets prospective partners discuss the relevant operating conditions and reveal how they make decisions.

Ask how the assessment becomes action

A useful strategy engagement should identify priorities, dependencies, accountable owners, and the next test. Ask what is delivered and how it supports an investment decision. A maturity score without an action path can leave leadership with the same uncertainty it had before.

Clarify whether implementation is part of the scope, a separate engagement, or something your team will undertake. Request a description of the handoff. You need to know which assumptions engineering will inherit and how unresolved questions will be addressed.

Evaluate technical and organizational fit

Discuss integrations, data access, approved tools, evaluation, and ongoing operation. Ask who designs the architecture and who reviews outputs. For workforce training, examine role-specific practice and adoption support rather than a generic course outline.

In-person access may help collaboration, but assess remote working practices as well. The partner’s communication and ownership model should fit your team regardless of location. Local presence is one criterion, not evidence of every capability.

Compare evidence and engagement boundaries

Ask for approved client examples and references relevant to your problem. Examine what the provider actually did, what the client owned, and how the result was measured. Avoid treating an unrelated demonstration as proof of a production delivery capability.

Compare the scope and assumptions of proposals. Clarify data handling, access, evaluation responsibilities, change management, and support. A credible recommendation should state what remains uncertain and how the engagement will reduce that uncertainty.

Choose a partner for the next useful decision

Use a shortlist scorecard with problem understanding, capability fit, delivery evidence, ownership clarity, and learning transfer. Assign weights based on your initiative. Keep the comparison focused on evidence rather than claims of being the best.

SolutionStream brings its Utah technology legacy to AI strategy, implementation, training, and fractional leadership. We connect the engagement to the business problem and the people responsible for solving it. The first goal is a clear, practical way forward.

A question for your next leadership conversation

Will this engagement leave your team with a better decision, a working capability, or both—and is that scope explicit?
